CALAPAN CITY – A former “housemate” of popular reality television show Pinoy Big Brother was arrested last Monday (November 18) morning by elements of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) for “obstruction of justice” after she tried to help in the escape of a suspect in the supposed “human trafficking” case here.
Christine Marie Gonzales, also known as “Beauty” during her stint as housemate in the first staging of PBB in ABS-CBN, is now being held in custody of PNP-CIDG Region 4B unit in this city following her arrest by authorities at about 2:00 AM of November 18 in Batangas City port.
According to Police Supt. Ruel Atayde Ferrer, head of CIDG-MIMAROPA (Region 4B), they detained Gonzales and a criminal case for “obstruction of justice” is now being prepared by police investigators after she tried to help in the escape of his brother, Michael Ryan Gonzales, who was arrested last November 14 for alleged “human trafficking” case.
On a tip by informants from a CIDG unit in Visayas area, Ferrer’s men, led by deputy chief of CIDG-MIMAROPA and Oriental Mindoro CIDG head P/Chief Insp. Angela K. Trajano, waylaid a bus load of 38 men and four minors last Thursday in Calapan City port which are about to be boarded on a departing roll-on-roll-off boat.
It was in that incident where Michael Ryan Gonzales was arrested because a reliable information has been received by the Region 4B office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) that the suspect is leading six commercial buses loaded with people from Caticlan, Iloilo who are to work without necessary legal permits as “sacada” or sugar cane farmers in Enrile, Cagayan Valley.
Meanwhile, Christine or Beauty, the ex-PBB housemate, was arrested when she tried to help her brother Michael to escape after the former visited the latter in the CIDG detention cell here.
Ferrer said that after Christine got the trust of CIDG men through the help of an unnamed police colonel, she enticed the authorities to let Michael leave the CIDG premises here for a moment to buy something outside.
But as soon as Christine got Michael inside her car which was being driven an unidentified male companion, they sped off to the Calapan port and boarded a passenger ferry boat, which has departed to Batangas City port.
CIDG men here, however, alerted their counterparts in Batangas as well as port police there about the escape. After learning of the interception and arrest made by authorities in Batangas, Trajano and her operatives immediately departed to Batangas and got Michael, his sister Christine and the driver of the vehicle the suspects used for escaping.
Officials of DOLE and the local Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) are now filing human trafficking case against Michael, while the ex-PBB housemate and her male companion are now facing “obstruction of justice” case. (By JUANCHO R. MAHUSAY)
