A sad news for the entertainment industry as actor Mico Palanca passed away on Monday. He was 41.
The announcement of his passing was first posted on Facebook by the Film Academy of the Philippines.
“The Film Academy Of The Philippines extends our sincerest sympathies to the family of Mico Palanca for his untimely passing,” the post read.
Meanwhile, talk show host Boy Abunda, during his closing spiels on “Tonight With Boy Abunda”, extended his condolences to the actor’s family.
“Mga kapamilya kami’y taos pusong nakikiramay po sa pamilya Revilla sa pagpanaw ni Mico Palanca,” the host said. “Itong balitang ito ay nanggaling po sa kanyang manager, ang aking kaibigang June Rufino… Lets continue to pray for the soul of Mico Palanca.”
Investigation is still ongoing and complete details have yet to be announced. However, according to a report by Abante Tonite, the 41-year-old actor jumped to his death from a residential area in Santolan Town, San Juan. Based on the initial information of the report, he was suffering from depression.
Mico is the younger brother of former Hunks member Bernard Palanca. He comes from a family of artists. His maternal grandfather, Armando Goyena, was also an actor and matinee idol during the 1950s.
He is also the grandson of businessman and philanthropist Carlos Palanca, Jr. of the prestigious Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature. His mother, Pita Revilla-Palanca, also comes from the Revilla clan.
He entered the showbiz industry when he became a member of Star Circle back in 1999. He was known for his roles in the 90s weekly-oriented show “Tabing Ilog”, “Bituing walang ningning” (2006), “Pangako sa ‘yo” (2000) and “Yamashita: The Tiger’s Treasure” (2001).
After that, he starred in several television series–the most recent was an episode of ABS-CBN’s Ipaglaban Mo! and Wansapanataym.
